Standing in Silent Solidarity

Hundreds of people stood this morning January 14, 2011, in respectful, quiet solidarity to support the mourning family of fallen sailor Petty Officer 1st Class Chad R. Regelin. They lined Riverside Ave. in Anderson, CA in front of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where the memorial was held.

Many American flags were being waved by veterans and younger people and members of thePatriot Guard Riders were there on motorcycles to escort the trip to Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Igo.

Members of local clergy, including several Shasta County Interfaith Forum members: Rev. Kacey Alexander, Rev. Heather Hennessey, and Dr. Ann Muir were also there to affirm that God Loves Everyone!

World Religion Day - January 15, 2012

The Bahais of Shasta County are comemorating Sunday, January 15, 2012 as World Religion Day.

You are invited to an informal gathering at 2 PM the Redding Library, Community Room A, 1100 Parkview Ave., Redding, CA 96001, focused on Achieving Peace.

Initiated in 1950, World Religion Day events focus on fostering the establishment of interfaith understanding and harmony by emphasizing the common denominators underlying all religions.

"Mankind, which has stemmed from one origin, must now strives toward the reconciliation of that which has been split up."

"The history of man's cultures and civilizations is the history of his religions. Nothing has such an integrating effect as the bond of common Faith. The history of religion shows that all religions had this unifying power - the power to instill in the hearts and minds of their adherents the fundamental verities and the vital spiritual standards and thus establish a unity of conscience for motivating man towards founding great culture and civilizations."

Light refreshments will be served and discussions will revolve around how we can achieve peace through the lenses of our various faiths.

There is no charge and everyone is welcome to attend.

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration in Redding - January 16, 2012

On Monday, January 16, 2012 the Redding, CA community is invited to participate in the Federal Holiday and Martin Luther King Jr Day Celebration.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

8:00 am: Bell Ringing Ceremony (Inside of Old City Hall, 1313 Market St.)

9:00 am: Worldwide bell ringing

9:30 am: Shuttle leaving MLK Jr. Ctr to Court House (Shuttle transportation provided by Bethel Church)

10:00 am: Form Prayer Circle (The south parking lot of the Court House, 1450 Court St. On the corner of Court and Yuba)

10:15 am: Prayer by community ministers

10:30 am: March from the Court House to Martin Luther King, Jr. Multicultural Center (1815 Sheridan Street)

11:00 am: Brunch - MLK Jr. Center

12:00 to 1:30 pm: Birthday Celebration
